The YMCA Regional Wellness Center located at the Town of Chester office building in Chestertown is currently looking for a fulltime Wellness Coordinator.  The Wellness Coordinator is a 40 hour per week position.  This position is responsible for creating a welcoming atmosphere, listening to and understanding member needs, developing relationships with members, and being knowledgeable about programs and services throughout the Y.  Responsible for member orientations, quality fitness instruction, member service, cleaning mats and equipment, processing memberships. This position is also responsible for the oversight of the Wellness Center and developing staff while interacting with new and existing members to help them in achieving their health and well-being goals.

  1. Management and supervision of Wellness Center Floor Staff that builds a sense of fellowship and belonging, and holds true to our mission and core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility and helps to meet our Association’s Strategic Goals.

  2. Hire, train, schedule, supervise, track certification and evaluate staff.

  3. Orient new members to the fitness facility and equipment as well as assisting members in proper usage of equipment.

  4. Carry out all policies and procedures within the Wellness Center.

  5. Provide for a strong professional image in conduct, appearance and uniform of staff.

  6. Oversee staff in consistently delivering excellent customer service to all members and maintaining excellent Wellness Center operations.

  7. Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all participants in the YMCA Wellness Center and activities by providing qualified staff, safety inspections, and administering wellness policies, procedures, rules, and best practices.

  8. Ensure that all equipment is clean and well maintained.

  9. Report in a timely manner to the ADK Center Director of Programming any problems, issues or departmental concerns.

  10. Register Center participants using membership software.

  11. Provide general information regarding the facility, memberships and programs.

  12. Conduct regular staff meetings and in-house trainings to cover relevant issues.

  • BA/BS in Exercise Science, Physical Education, Health Education or related field preferred.
  • Personal Trainer Certification preferred.
  • 1-3 years’ experience working in health and fitness field as well as supervisory experience required.
  • Current certifications in CPR, First Aid, and AED or ability to obtain and maintain.
  • Current, nationally recognized, fitness certifications including a Personal Trainer certification preferred.
  • Experience in management, staff development
  • Demonstrated commitment to mission-driven programming and customer service
  • Demonstrated self-motivation
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, organizational, and both verbal and written communication skills
  • General computer literacy
  • Ability to articulate the YMCA mission and programs to staff, volunteers, members and the community
  • Comfortable and confident in dealing with the general public
  • Must understand and contribute to the mission of the YMCA to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all.
