Competitive Gymnastics Team

Gymnastics Team

The gymnastics team is intended to provide our children with an enjoyable, competitive gymnastics experience. As part of a team effort, they will not only learn to improve their own gymnastics techniques, but also understand the importance of encouragement of their teammates. There is a team fee, meet fees, uniform fees, as well as a YMCA membership fee. Call Tammy Morey for details at 793-3878

PREP Optional Rules

Athletes are placed in levels they can compete successfully in for the season while they develop the next levels’ skill set. Uniforms are required. This season every athlete will need a new leotard. Those in levels 4 and higher, who need a new warm-up or do not yet have one, will be purchasing a different style as we begin making the transition to a different warm-up. Athletes are required to participate in all home meets, 75% of away meets and to represent their team in the YMCA’s League and State Championships. This year the Glens Falls YMCA team is proud to host the YMCA New York State Gymnastics Championships in April. Tryouts for levels 4 & higher upon request.

Level 2 & 3 Team- 1X per week practice. In addition, participants are required to take at least one other class in their level each week. These teams will both register by the session and will have school vacation weeks off.

PREP- This is for girls level 4 and higher, age 11 and older who would like to be part of the team and compete but not have the same level of commitment required of those in the level program. This will allow time to participate in school sports and other activities while still maintain your commitment to attend team practices. This level registers by the session and has school vacation weeks off.

Levels 4, 5, 6- These levels are compulsory levels. Girls will learn a required skills set building on a skills learned in previous levels.

Levels 7, 8, 9- Athletes perform higher level, choreographed routines and more difficult vaults. Athletes are placed in levels they can compete successfully in for the season while they develop the next levels’ skill set.

Competing With Your Brother Or Sister

It is okay to compete with your brother or sister. Just remember that the 2 of you are different in many ways. In

some things they will be better and in other ways you will be better. You are both super important. You are both

loved by your parents. And no, your parents won’t like the one who is better at sports than the other. They will be

proud of both of you for working hard, trying your best and having fun in your activities.

Being Active

Too many young people are sitting at home playing PS3’s and Xbox for too many hours. Being active is much

more healthy and you will be happier. More outside activities with lots of fun. Don’t be lazy and a couch potato.

Disagreeing With Your Coach

Sometimes this happens. Sometimes they tell you to do something that you may not want to do. The bottom line

is that they are having you do things so that you will be better. You may not understand or agree with your coach

once in awhile but you need to follow directions as they are the expert in what you need to do to be a better athlete.

They know a lot more about what needs to be done than you do.

When Was The Last Time You:

Looked around your house and realized how much you and your family have? I think

you are probably pretty lucky. Think about the things that you have rather than the

things you don’t have.

Your Challenge This Week

Figure out what school subject you have the lowest grade in and work hard on that

subject the next 2 weeks to get that grade up. A little extra hard work could make a

big difference.

Others Asking You To Do Something Wrong

There will be times when you are with others when someone will say “let’s break a

window.” Or something you know is wrong. This is where you step up and be more mature and say no because you know it is wrong. Most of the time the person who came up with the bad idea wouldn’t do it by themselves.
