Preschool GYMNASTICS

Age 4 & younger

 

Preschool Gymnastics at the YMCA is a great opportunity for parent & child to socialize with others, develop coordination & loco motor skills needed for kindergarten, improve listening ability while learning a variety of age appropriate skills in a safe and fun environment.

 

Open gym- W/ PARENT (age 1 & 2)

Practice climbing, running, jumping, rolling, swinging with other parents & children in this non structured open play time. Direct 1:1 adult supervision required.     

 

Family gym- W/ PARENT (age 2-5)

Practice climbing, running, jumping, rolling, swinging with other parents & children in this non structured open play time. Direct parental/ adult  supervision required. 

                                         

Tumbling tots – W/ PARENT (age 2)

25-30 minutes structure followed by 10-15 minutes open play.  Parents assist your 2 year old with age appropriate activities including climbing, running, jumping, rolling, swinging, eye-hand exercises, pretending and more. Direct 1:1 adult supervision required.

 

NEW- Gymn & swim- W/ PARENT (age 2 & 3)

Class begins in the Gymnastics Center with lesson, followed by  swim lesson. Wearing your bathing suit for the gymnastics lesson is highly recommended. Direct 1:1 adult  supervision required.

 

Me & My shadow- W/ PARENT (age 3)

30 min. structure followed by 10 minutes open play.  Recommended for students who have not yet participated in a structured activity or may not be ready to participate in a without parent class. Direct 1:1 adult  supervision required.

                                                       

Minigymmies- WITHOUT PARENT (age 3)

½ hour structured class. Learn gymnastics basics through fun and age appropriate lessons.

 

Minigym and dance- WITHOUT PARENT (age 3)

Class begins with a dance lesson in the studio followed by a gymnastics lesson. Footless tights may be worn for this class only.

 

Cheer 4 mom & me- W/ PARENT (age 3 & 4)

Child & adult learn cheers, dance & stunting together.     

 

Kindergymn- WITHOUT PARENT (age 4)

40 min. structured class. Learn gymnastics basics through fun and age appropriate lessons, incorporating the fundamental motor skills needed for kindergarten.

 

Kindergym and dance- WITHOUT PARENT (age 4)

Class begins with a ½ hr. dance lesson in the studio followed by a ½ hr. gymnastics lesson. Footless tights may be worn for this class only. 1:6 ratio         

 

NEW- Gymnastics & swim- WITHOUT PARENT (age 4 & 5)

Class begins in the Gymnastics Center with ½ hr lesson, followed by ½ hr. swim lesson. Please wear your 1 piece bathing suit to gymnastics class for an easy transition to the pool.

 

School Age GYMNASTICS

Ages 5-7, 8+

 

PROGRESSIVE GYMNASTICS

Gymnastics includes a variety of opportunities to increase your movement vocabulary & improve spacial relations, strength, flexibility and agility. Our YMCA provides a progressive gymnastics program in which “steps” or levels of learning make learning safe and efficient by building on skills learned in previous levels. New lesson plans are implemented bi-weekly to ensure a variety of movement experiences within each respective level. The progressive program used is based on USA Gymnastic’s Junior Olympic program, beginning at 1 and progressing to level 10.  Gymnastics is not only a great foundation for participation in other sports, but is a great opportunity to gain self confidence by learning to set and accomplish goals.

LEVEL 1- learn basics like cartwheels, handstands, rolls, pullovers, casting, balancing, hurdling.

LEVEL 2- must have passed level 1. This level is learning level 3 skills

LEVEL 3- must have passed level 2. This level is learning level 4 skills.

 

1st year gymnastics & dance

Level 1 gymnastics incorporating more dance at balance beam and floor exercise.  This class is geered toward helping future team athletes with dance terminology and performance.

 

NEW- Level 1 BARS Supplement (40 min. including strengthening).

Lacking some of the bars skills needed to move to level 2? This is the class for you. You must be registered for at least one level 1 class in addition to this supplement in order to participate.

 

REC GYM (level 4 + non competitive)-

BOYS Gymnastics Class: Learn basics on men’s events:  Vault, Pommel Horse, High bar, Parallel bars, Still Rings and Floor Exercise.

 

 

TUMBLING & TRAMPOLINE:

Enjoy our:

  • 30- tumble tramp
  • Trampoline
  • Great instruction in a fun and safe environment

 

Tumbling A (level 1 & 2)   

Tumbling B (level 3-5)      

Must have roundoff, bridge back & up, bridge kickover, handstand to bridge.

Tumbling C (level 6+)        

Students who can do both front & back flips without spot may attend.    

                  

Beginner Acro Hip-hop:  Tumbling, trampoline & hip hop instruction.

 

 

 

CHEER

Learn cheers, builds, dance & tumbling basics for entry level cheer. This class is great preparation for those who are looking forward to team tryouts (held in June each year).   Instructor: Teresa Dynes

 

 

 

PRAISE DANCE:

Learn various forms of dance with/ without hand apparatus. Included may be tambourine, flags, streamers, billows, scarves, fans & more. In January, students will be asked to commit to the end of the year dance recital.  Classes may also be asked to participate in parades and other community events. These classes may run in shorter sessions than our regular classes. Contemporary Christian music is used in all classes. Modest attire is appropriate for participation in this class.

 

NEW:   There are now 3 levels of praise dance offered. If you are a returning student, contact Tammy for placement. If you have not taken praise dance including the above hand apparatus, register for beginner.

SPECIAL/ EXTRA CURRICULAR:

NEW Gymnastics Fit & Fun

Try some of the gymnastics team warm-up, learn jumps, conditioning games & challenges. Improve your strength, agility and stamina while enjoying a ton of fun with instructor Desiree Boucher, Sport Aerobics World Championship team member.

 

Home School Gymnastics (K-4th grade)

Improve your strength, agility and stamina while learning gymnastics basics. Group games, races, conditioning & challenges may be included.

 

OPEN WORKOUT

Trampoline Waiver required. Open Workout rules must be followed. Adult must be enrolled in a program to attend. This program is supervised by gymnastics staff, but does not include instruction. Participants may work on skills and drills which they are able to do independently. (This program runs 6 weeks of the 7 week session).  MUST BE LEVEL 2 OR HIGHER.   NEW! Open workouts are now split into two age groups. Also new day & times

 

ADAPTIVE Gymnastics

½ private or semi-private with an instructor experienced in working with youth/ adults who have special needs.  Please consult your physician prior to participation. Improve strength, flexibility, listening, loco motor, fine motor, spatial awareness and social skills.  Call for availability.

 

PRIVATE Gymnastics

½ hour private or hour-private with an experienced instructor. Improve specific skills or get the extra help needed to help you achieve your goal.  $18/36 – ½ hr.    

 

NEW!  GROUP LESSONS for visiting schools/ community groups

Make arrangements for your group to enjoy a 1 hour gymnastics lesson with our experienced instructors, in our fully equipped gymnastics facility. Preschools, primary grades, cheer teams, girl scouts and more. To make arrangements, contact Tammy Morey. $5pp/  $50 minimum per group.

 

Teen/Adult Classes

  • Teen tumbling- tumbling and trampoline, geared to the level & needs of the class
  • Teen Gymnastics- Instruction in vaulting, bars, balance beam, & tumbling  (Inst.: Dawn McCormack)
  • Adult Gymnastics-  Geared to the needs of the class (Instructor: Tony Santiago)
  • Adult Praise Dance- Dance to contemporary music using a variety of styles and props including tambourine, streamers and flags. (Instructor: Tammy Morey)

COMPETITIVE TEAMS

Girls Gymnastics Team-

Currently levels 3 to 9. Required and available hours  depend on the level & commitment of the athlete and their family. Train with knowledgeable & experienced coaches in our new gymnastics facility including in ground tumble trak & in 3 ground resi-pits. Tryouts for levels 4 & higher upon request.

All-stars cheer team-              

Tryouts in June. Ages 4-17, Beginner to advanced. New participants will be taken if they have cheered at level 3 or higher (levels are different than gymnastics. Candidates must have cheer & tumbling experience).Coach: Sonia Swears

Activity Options

1. Gymnastics party (in our gymnastics gym)

Experience a variety of movement in a fun Obstacle course including our specially shaped mats, rope, rings and other fun activities. Parachute activity or group games at the end of your gym time. Ages 3 & older  (Toddler parties available. Call Juanita for more information).

 

2. Cheer partyLearn a cheer routine. Receive a video tape of the completed               routine for the birthday child to keep
